Never cross the finish line prior to the race.

What’s the most shocking or most helpful thing a spectator has ever said to you while you were racing?
In Ironman Coeur D’Alene 2006, Paula Newby-Fraser said that I couldn’t catch the lead woman, Joanna Zeiger (who had started 35 minutes ahead).
That motivated me and I came in 30 seconds behind her – definitely helpful!

What characteristics do you most respect in your competitors?
The ability to run fast off the bike.

If you were not a pro athlete, what would you do professionally?
I’d be a currency trader (which is what I did prior to becoming a triathlete).

When you were a kid, what did you dream of becoming when you grew up?
A pilot.

Dirt off your Shoulder by Jay Z.

How do you reward yourself when you reach a key goal?
Take vacation time with my family.

If you were a contestant on Survivor, what would be your one comfort item from home?
My Blackberry. Or the History of Baseball Encyclopedia.

In my swim cap.

I have two children: 2 weeks and 2 years old. I love to hunt in the off season. I listen to classical music.
